Every day we are constantly exposed to the idea of love that is external. We are injected with an “idea of love” and what it should be like. Anything differernt or short of that is failure and misery. That “idea of love” becomes a benchmark for success and happiness and in many cases a goal.
Yes love is an essence of life and it a fundamental part of us. It builds the world we belong to and makes life what it is. But that love needs to first come for you. It has to be an internal manifestation first.
It can start by taking good care of your self. Eating right and exercising. Even something as simple as telling yourself “I Love You” is a great start. As we start looking within us for love – we will gradually take steps towards our true self. This can lead to a more balanced and peaceful happiness that resides within us.
To love yourself is something that is as basic as drinking water but we never focus on this. As this legitimate affection for oneself becomes a practice, the less you would seek that love in someone else or externally. The want for love would diminish. That is when you move from being a seeker of love to being a giver of love.
So this Valentine’s Day how about being your own Valentine? Tell yourself “I Love You” and maybe every day from now take a step closer to first loving yourself and connecting with your inner being.

Because the love we cultivate within ourselves will strengthen us and make us be the best version of ourselves.
